9th day: Najera -Santo Domingo de Calzado
21,2 Kms (cum.215,8 Kms)
My ankle is definitely swollen, it hurts walking and more importantly I am risking an injury.
I guess it's the result of carrying overweight baggage from the begginning which I have ultimately reduced since Estella. I am trying an ice cold bath for my ankle and putting a Voltaren cream on it for overnight.
An American pilgrim named Sharon (from California) is celebrating her 70's birthday tomorrow. Her slogan on the road is "poco a poco" which actually seems tobe working out for her.
Today I got up at a quarter to six and left Albergue something after seven so the early hours of my today's walk were actually happening in the darkness when the new day meets the old night.
There was a small village right after 6 kilometers where I dropped for breakfast and I had my lunch at a Golf resort in Ciruena. The scenery is slowly changing by now. La Rioja region throughout which I am doing my Camino is worldwide renown for its wine yards.
