6th day: Estella - Los Arcos
21 Kms (cum.136,6 Kms)
The day of so called bloody moon. The walk was easy on the morning hours,
but it always is. Once the sun hits the zenith, wearing a hat is absolutely inevitable unless
you want to get yourself a sunburn. And drinking a lot of water. Twice as much as
usually.
Camino is becoming more frequent at this time. And not only that, new faces seem to appear since many people do not start their walk in Saint Jean, but rather in Pamplona.
Another fact is an increased appearance of genuinely Spanish pilgrims, I'd say there is at least one third or even almost half of the pilgrims coming from Spain.
The more frequent however it is becoming with more and more walkers on the road, almost like a walking highway (and I am sure it will grow even more), I am becoming to realize that there is no need to rush, Camino is not a race. Even though you are part of group of pilgrims you don't have to follow the flock.
I ordered a sandwich at a local food store and while cutting the bread the owner asked me how I want the sandwich done and I said that with ham and cheese. After a while I noticed there was a mustard and I wanted to have that added on. Nevertheless the owner persuaded me that putting mustard on such fine pork ham would be considered almost a crime in this region. So I agreed that the sandwich will be without a mustard, paid for it and walked out of the store back to the Albergue. When I sat down to eat my sandwich I realized there was something missing. I would have really enjoyed the mustard.
I suddenly realized the lesson Camino is telling me. Don't submit to other people's ideas to your own ways of doing things. Is something you are doing out of ordinary that people can't accept? The choice is on you, not on them. It is your life and it is your Camino. It's gonna be the way you are going to make it yourself. We are all unique beings and have our unique ways of expressing ourselves.
